Unit: Entertainment and Recreation
One of the greatest challenges facing ESL students is the advanced speaking class in which the most confident students dominate the discussion and the more reticent students quickly withdraw. These Discussion Starters helps balance the oral participation of all the students in the class, promoting an environment in which everyone has not only the opportunity but a real need to speak out.

Choose one question that you want to ask everyone.  You can make your own question if you want. Ask everyone in the class your question.  Write down the answers. After you collect this information, play a game and try to guess the most popular answers to the questions. Make four or five groups in class. One person from one group reads their question and the other groups guess what they think will be the most popular answer. The guessing groups get point for each person who answered the same answer.
